How did you attract/address your audience?

HOW DOES THE STYLE AND LOOK OF THE TITLE CREDITS APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE?

The title credits in my film 'Doppelganger' is different to the font of the main title. I have done this to emphasise the importance of the title. For the title credits, I have used a block font that mimics the look of a stamp. Each letter of the credits come out slightly faded, which relates to the plot as it is unclear to how the film may play out which creates enigmas and heightens the audiences excitement.

The effect used on the credits caused them to fade on and off the the screen. This connotes mystery, further creating enigma codes and tension. The fading effects as well as the font creates a tense , eerie atmosphere which was our aim. This atmosphere sets the tone for the film, allowing the audience to know that this film will be dark and shocking. Once again this causes the audience to feel immense excitement and anticipation before the film even begins.

To create these titles I used the software Aftereffects. I first decided to use the effect Jiggy, which would cause the credits to shake vigorously, however I believed this did not relate well to my title sequence as it suggests suddenness, whereas throughout my title sequence tension is always first built up slowly..

HOW DOES THE STYLE OF THE TITLE APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE?

The title of my film is 'Doppelganger' which means an identical replica of a person. The title relates to the plot as it is centred around twins - who despite being identical in terms of appearance, have  personalities and traits that are very different.

The title is very straight to the point, giving the audience a clear image of what the film will be about. However it will also makes them question what is particularly special about these twins? Doppelganger is a German word which means ghost or shadow of yourself. This relates to Alessandra (The evil twin) as throughout the film she stalks her sister as if she were her shadow or a ghost haunting her. This gives the audience an idea of what the plot could possibly be about, which causes anticipation to see how it will play out.

The font I chose for the main title is called 'Lugosi' a font in block letters, that slightly mimics graffiti. Due to graffiti being considered a crime, by using this font it is clear to the audience that acts against the law may be included in this film, causing the audience to once again question just what kind of crime will be committed and whom by.

The mise en scene is another aspect that appealed to the audience, particularly the dark room. We created the dark room ourselves, using the resources we had available. With some difficulties we managed to mimic the room where photographs are processed, a crucial setting in my title sequence as while stalking her twin sister, Alessandra also took photos of her. The dark room relates to the rest of the plot, creating an eerie tone and atmosphere. The colour red connotes danger, implying that Alessandra could be harmful. The red room scenes were placed in between other scenes that were featured outside. This drastic change between scenes draws the audience’s attention as it is unexpected. The darkness of the dark room does not allow Alessandra’s face to be clearly visible, which once again creates enigmas and heightens tension, as the audience do not get to see Alessandra’s face till the end. This may come as a shock to some audience members, which causes them to feel immersed in the title sequence and intrigued.

HOW DOES THE STORY LINE, GENRE  AND ACTORS APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE?

Our film plot is centred around young female twins, who were separated at a young age due to one developing a mental illness. Upon a failed attempt to set her sister alight, Alessandra is exiled to a mental asylum. However, the asylum was no match for her and after a few years, Alessandra escapes, revenge heavy on her mind. Alessandra first tries to get to her sister, Millicent, through creating a fake facebook profile and perusing her.

This plot is very unusual and unique which is what draws the audience in, as no one would expect a sibling to have such a great a great distaste towards a member of family, especially a twin as it is expected for twins to be very close and over protective of one another. That point alone appeals to audience, as it makes them want to watch the whole film to find out what Alessandra's motives are. Thriller is a genre that is very popular with young people (roughly from the age of 16 - 24) as it creates a thrill and a sense of excitement. With thrillers, people do not know what to expect , which is what draws them in. Throughout the film there will be various plot twists that will shock the audience, in order to keep them at the edge of their seats and immersed.

In our title sequence, the actors are two young girls. This factor will appeal to our target audience as they are have similar ages, therefore they can relate to the choices the characters make and understand on a more personal level. This makes the film seem more authentic. The actors use aspects such as social media, which is also very relatable, as social media is used by a lot of our younger generation. By using a popular social media app such as facebook, this heightens the audience's expiercene as getting deceived on this app could actually occur in real life.

Our pitch feedback helped me alter our title sequence effectively, so that it suited our target audience's wants and what would appeal best to them. In our pitch feedback we were told to use colour grading on the last scene where Alessandra's face is revealed. This feedback was very helpful because after colour grading, Alessandra's face was clear and no longer blended in with the colourful background. This ensured that the audience would focus purely on her and created a more dramatic affect. We were also told to layer different sounds onto one another, so that there was a mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sounds. In response to this we used background music to set the tone and the atmosphere and on top of that we added the sound of a drone. The use of this sound makes the audience feel more immersed in the title sequence, as if they were actually in the film, alongside the characters.

HOW DID YOU REACH YOUR AUDIENCE?

We reached our audience members in various ways. One way we did this is through the use of a website, as a lot of young people use the internet, we believed this was a good platform to use. We also used social media apps,  such as twitter and created many posters. On the posters we used colours that would capture the attention of our target audience such as red and black, which also related to our plot and the characters.

FINAL AUDIENCE FEEDBACK.

After our title sequence was presented, we received some final feedback from the audience. We were told that our film was very intense and packed with tension that kept the audience anticipating for the next scene. The mise en scene was heavily favoured, particularly the dark room, which the audience members claimed looked very realistic and set the tone just right.

The climax at the end of the title sequence was made clear enough (due to colour grading) that the audience understood exactly what was happening and found it shocking, a plotwist that they did not expect.
